Why Etowah Valley Humane Society?

Etowah Valley Humane Society exists for the purpose of preventing cruelty to, relieving the suffering of, and providing humane treatment for animals in need. In addition to caring for animals that are lost or abandoned, EVHS has had tremendous success helping to re-home pets that have been owner surrendered.

What do the statistics represent?

There has not been a healthy animal euthanized in Bartow County in over 5 years!

How do we pay for it all?

  • EVHS is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of Georgia. Our Tax ID# is 58 2261919.
  • EVHS is not supported by any state or federal agency, nor do we receive any funding from any national animal welfare organization.
  • EVHS derives operating funds primarily from adoption fees, private donations, and fundraising events.

And we’ve got some big expenses to cover…

  • Our annual Operating Budget is $325,000.
  • Vet bills can cost the shelter upwards of $80,000 to $90,000 per year!
    • That’s because ALL of our great homeless pets are FULLY vetted prior to being adopted out. All eligible animals are:
      • Medically and temperament tested
      • De-wormed, flea/tick treatments, heartworm prevention
      • Immunized against common infectious diseases (Bordetella, canine distemper/parvo/influenza, feline HIV/leukemia/panleukopenia)
      • Spayed or neutered
      • Microchipped
      • Rabies if mature enough
  • Payroll costs can reach upwards of $135,000 to $140,000 per year!

      • One Rescue Coordinator
      • One Office Assistant
      • Four Kennel Techs
