Beauregard (and his kitty Charlotte)

Beauregard (and his kitty Charlotte)!

Hi! I wanted to follow up on a dog I adopted last year. He has turned out to be the most wonderful dog I've ever owned. When I adopted "Sailor" I immediately realized I had given him the wrong name. He was such a southern gentleman that I renamed him Beauregard. Beauregard and I thank you for giving him the chance to find a home. We have moved to Norcross, Georgia this past year. Beauregard loves his kitties and his big back yard. I have attached a photo of Beauregard and his kitty Charlotte.
Thanks for all of your hard work. I know it's challenging at times, but there are wonderful success stories in Bartow County because of your time.

Nick (and his boy Scott)

Nick (and his boy Scott)!

On Dec 17th I went home with Mr and Mrs Beagle. They suprised me with my very own 12 year old boy at their house. His name is Scott and he and I are best friends now. The Family that took me home are a lot of fun. Scott has given me the name of "Nick" for St. Nick since I came at Christmas and since they saved me in the "nick" of time. They have woods and a big yard for me to run in. They also have nice neighbors that have dogs too. My new dog frinds are: Leo (a boxer) and Cody (a Golden Retreiver). Boy, do we like to chase after the tennis ball and race.
My owners have taken me to the vet for a check up and the doctor said I was in good health. I just had surgery (Neutered)on Friday 1-2-04 and my bottom is a little sore but I am getting better.
I have attached a picture of me and my very own 12 year old boy named Scott. We had a great Christmas and they gave me lots of toys and treats.

Miss Murphy

Miss Murphy!

In Dec 2000 we as a family decided we wanted to add to our household a four-legged baby. We had never had a dog in the house and so we sat and discussed it for a while. The responsibilities and who would walk it and feed it and all the things that a furbaby needs. After making sure this was a change everyone was ready for and willing to give up time for we started the search. We knew we didnt want a puppy for the obvious CHEWY reasons and there are so many adult dogs at shelters that need a home we thought we would venture in that direction.

Surfing website to website we were finding it hard to make decisions. We knew we wanted a small dog about 20 lbs or less and most the dogs at the shelters were bigger than that. I began to call around asking if anyone had a dog that size and the Bartow Shelter had one. So we went to see a little yellow terrier there. When we arrived at the shelter they were pretty busy so we went back to look on our own and in the last stall in with about 6 other dog was a cream colored terrier. She was calm and a little shy. One of the employees came back to talk to us and show us the little guy we had discussed over the phone. We took him to a room to get to know him a little better but his personality was a little too hyper for us and we asked to see the cream colored dog named Murphy.

The shelter staff told us that Murphy had been there a while and that her time was nearing. She had been found in a cat box in the middle of the woods somewhere and brought here. They had changed her name and tag number a few times so that she would not be put down. She was even adopted once and brought back.

She was a little bigger than we were looking for but her personality was so great. She was quiet and a little reserved but very loving. We fell in love with her there and decided to take her home. Dec 9, 2000 Miss Murphy became Miss Murphy Long.

We got her home, cleaned and on a regular routine but we noticed that she wouldnt play and didnt bark. So after a vet a check (healthy) it was determined that she might be a little depressed. We bought her toys and took her long walks and fed her treats and everything that any dog could dream of about 6 months later she began to play. She also started barking at about the same time it was then that I (and she) knew she would be fine. I think in her mind she finally realized that she had a home and people that love her and she would protect them as a good does.

Now Miss Murphy brings you toys when she wants to play (which is almost all the time) and when she wants to bark but knows she shouldnt she will come sit in your lap (and yes she is a little big to be a lap dog) because she can be very good if she sits with you and knows she safe. We can always tell if someone drives up that she doesnt know as she will bark but if it someone she knows she begins singing its really very funny.

She now has a brother Scooby. Scooby is a stray that someone sat out at my husbands place of business. We took him in and in February he will have his 2nd family-day (birthday into our family). They love each other so much; I often wonder how they ever made it without each other.

Miss Murphy also enjoys her bi-monthly trips to the groomers. Her first few visits they had to sedate her but now she loves it and they say she is a sweetie and never gives a bit of problem.

Ive included a picture of Murph, on Christmas day this year, after all the gifts were opened; she was so pooped he took her new baby and curled up in her favorite bed and slept several hours.

Thanks for helping us find our Miss Murphy.

Bert (and his Aunt Gail)

Bert and his Aunt Gail!

About a year ago, Bert was a sweet poodle mix needing a home. Lisa was looking for a canine companion to Ladd, a sweet and comical rescue she had at home. Lisa was hoping for a more lap-friendly dog that could sit in her sister Gails lap or on Gails wheelchair tray. When Lisa met Bert, she knew he was just the dog that she and Gail were looking for! Now Bert has a home, Ladd has a brother, Lisas got a special new friend and Gails lap is always warm!

Bukka

Bukka!

Just a note to let you know how Bukka is doing. If you remember him, he is the deaf ACD I got from the shelter last year. We went to Melissa Heater for obedience and he got his Charm Behaviour award for being such a wonderful dog. Of course he does it all with hand signals. The only command he can't do is a "sit stay" if I leave the room and he can't see me. I have also taught him a few basic hand signals for "good dog" and "BAD BOY". He happiest dog I have ever met. Most people can't tell he is deaf because he is so well adjusted. He does't walk he prances and he never met an animal or human he doesn't like. Bukka is part of the family. I encourage everybody to look at a pet's heart and not physical condition when selecting a new pet. I'm sure glad I found Bukka.

Will and Grace
Just wanted to thank you for our two pets we adopted this year! In January my husband to be and I adopted a little grey kitten who was rough around the edges but has become beautiful and healthy! We named her Gracie. Gracie was getting lonely when we went to work so we adopted a grey maine coone last month from you to keep her company and we named him Wilbert so they are "Will and Grace" for short. Both sleep in my bed and get constant attention. They have their own playroom upstairs and I love them so much! Thank you!
Rocky
I adopted my beautiful German Shepherd, Rocky, from the Bartow Humane Society in September 2003. At first I was worried that his 90 lb. frame (which is now at 101 lbs.) would be too large for my little 15 lb. Shih-Tzu, but they get along great. My Shih-Tzu just ignores him and if he is ever accidentally stepped on he puts Rocky in his place and Rocky backs off like a good boy. We named him Rocky because when we got him he knew how to sit but had this uncontrollable urge to shake constantly making him look like a boxer, just like Rocky Balboa! He has fit well into our family and is a joy to be around. He is super protective of his mommy now and follows me around EVERYWHERE! He is also great with kids and kids love to come right up to him and pet and love on him (which he cant get enough of). He is also the biggest hit in my neighborhood. All the neighbors think that I adopted the best dog around and cant believe that someone lost this beautiful dog. Thank you all at the humane society that calmed my nerves about my little one being around my huge one.
Harley
Just wanted to write you a note to update you on Harley aka M9B (adult male german shepherd with floppy ears and HUGE feet). I adopted him about 3 weeks ago from y'all. He is an absolute angel! He is happy with his new siblings (2 other GSD's, a lhasa mix, and 3 cats) and is fitting in well. He's still afraid of stairs, but we're hoping that will come in time. Most of his other trust issues are gone. He now weighs 92 lbs & the vet said he may even pick up a little more! He still likes to give hugs, but he's getting a little too big for them, so he's working on learning "off." He's a smart fellow, so he's learning it quickly. Well, I just wanted to drop you this e-mail so you'd know that Harley is well and loved in his new home. He's a great boy and we're crazy about him! Thank you!
Molly
Just wanted to let you know that Molly (alias Mable) seems to love Lookout Mountain and is the hit of the neighborhood. She is eating and sleeping well and getting an abundance of love and attention! She continues to act 15 and not 5 but we have told her even that is OK since she ended up with old folks anyway. We do feel concern for her hips however and wonder if maybe she had been hit by a car at some point. We are thinking about getting them x rayed just to try and know what we might be dealing with. We are taking her for two walks a day about 30 minutes each time to see if we cant get her built up and more agile. She does fine but really drags toward the end, we dont know if that is just being out of shape or older than we thought or pain or what. She does not limp but definitely has some kind of hip issue. Anyway.we love her and thank you for saving her for us. If you ever decide to SEE ROCK CITY we are just around the corner and would LOVE to have you visit! You guys have an exceptionally nice shelter.
Jasper
I adopted Jasper from yall on March 21st of this year. As expected my other labrador "Jazz" has already started caring about her, she's been caught giving her smooches on several occasions. She healed quickly from her spay and got through her kennel cough with the help of medications fairly quickly. I have had so many compliments on her looks and calmness, she is one of the calmest labbys I've ever seen, which is wonderful. She is just starting to learn how to play, which was very exciting the first day she did, I don't think her prior owners ever played with her. Anyways just thought I'd let yall know and thank you for adopting her to me, she is doing great!
Stanley and Lady Bing
I just wanted you to know how excited I am to have Stanley and Lady Bing at our home! They are even more beautiful than I imagined....and so sweet. Lady Bing seems really happy...she was a little skittish at first, but now is rubbing against my legs and purring. I asked Stanley if he was happy here and he meowed. They are in very good hands! My 2 cats while growing up all lived to be around 20, my cat was 17. I will take wonderful care of them so don't you worry....and on Tuesday, which would have been Stanley's day to die, we will give him an extra big hug. I am so happy to have found them....I guess I was finally ready...it has taken me 2 years to get over Oskar's death and I will never be fully over it.
Moses
I adopted a male German Shepherd-Moses from you back in 2000. I have enjoyed the companionship of this loyal, high-spirited, and affectionate dog. He is still healthy and has brought much pleasure to my family. I encourage anyone who is looking for a pet to adopt one rather than buy one. I have done both-and the adopted pet is truly appreciative!
