Hi Lifesavers.. My Name is Skye...I wanted you to know i'm doing great...My Mom and Dad love me very much...they even take me and my fir sister on vacation...we had some pictures taken at Jekyll Island .. we were going to send those.. but the computer ate them...while we were there.. I tried to teach them how to catch birds..my Dad kept holding this long thing attached to my collar though...just as I was about to catch the little flying feathers....Dad would pull me back...I just couldn't teach him that ...I did however teach them to play ball and how to pick out toys that squeak...I just Love those! Thank you so much ..for holding me long enough for my Mom to find me and bring me to my new forever home..I came home in July of 2003...My family is now complete.
I thought you might like a few pictures to see how Tasha is doing. She has been a special addition to our lives. Keep up the good work at the Bartow County Humane Society.
Hi! I wanted to follow up on a dog I adopted last year. He has turned out to
be the most wonderful dog I've ever owned. When I adopted "Sailor" I
immediately realized I had given him the wrong name. He was such a southern
gentleman that I renamed him Beauregard. Beauregard and I thank you for
giving him the chance to find a home. We have moved to Norcross, Georgia
this past year. Beauregard loves his kitties and his big back yard. I have
attached a photo of Beauregard and his kitty Charlotte.
Thanks for all of your hard work. I know it's challenging at times, but
there are wonderful success stories in Bartow County because of your time.
On Dec 17th I went home with Mr and Mrs Beagle. They suprised me with my very own 12 year old boy at their house. His name is Scott and he and I are best friends now. The Family that took me home are a lot of fun. Scott has given me the name of "Nick" for St. Nick since I came at Christmas and since they saved me in the "nick" of time. They have woods and a big yard for me to run in.
They also have nice neighbors that have dogs too. My new dog frinds are: Leo (a boxer) and Cody (a Golden Retreiver). Boy, do we like to chase after the tennis ball and race.
My owners have taken me to the vet for a check up and the doctor said I was in good health. I just had surgery (Neutered)on Friday 1-2-04 and my bottom is a little sore but I am getting better.
I have attached a picture of me and my very own 12 year old boy named Scott. We had a great Christmas and they gave me lots of toys and treats.
In Dec 2000 we as a family decided we wanted to add to our household a four-legged baby. We had never had a dog in the house and so we sat and discussed it for a while. The responsibilities and who would walk it and feed it and all the things that a furbaby needs. After making sure this was a change everyone was ready for and willing to give up time for we started the search. We knew we didnt want a puppy for the obvious CHEWY reasons and there are so many adult dogs at shelters that need a home we thought we would venture in that direction.
Surfing website to website we were finding it hard to make decisions. We knew we wanted a small dog about 20 lbs or less and most the dogs at the shelters were bigger than that. I began to call around asking if anyone had a dog that size and the Bartow Shelter had one. So we went to see a little yellow terrier there. When we arrived at the shelter they were pretty busy so we went back to look on our own and in the last stall in with about 6 other dog was a cream colored terrier. She was calm and a little shy. One of the employees came back to talk to us and show us the little guy we had discussed over the phone. We took him to a room to get to know him a little better but his personality was a little too hyper for us and we asked to see the cream colored dog named Murphy.
The shelter staff told us that Murphy had been there a while and that her time was nearing. She had been found in a cat box in the middle of the woods somewhere and brought here. They had changed her name and tag number a few times so that she would not be put down. She was even adopted once and brought back.
She was a little bigger than we were looking for but her personality was so great. She was quiet and a little reserved but very loving. We fell in love with her there and decided to take her home. Dec 9, 2000 Miss Murphy became Miss Murphy Long.
We got her home, cleaned and on a regular routine but we noticed that she wouldnt play and didnt bark. So after a vet a check (healthy) it was determined that she might be a little depressed. We bought her toys and took her long walks and fed her treats and everything that any dog could dream of about 6 months later she began to play. She also started barking at about the same time it was then that I (and she) knew she would be fine. I think in her mind she finally realized that she had a home and people that love her and she would protect them as a good does.
Now Miss Murphy brings you toys when she wants to play (which is almost all the time) and when she wants to bark but knows she shouldnt she will come sit in your lap (and yes she is a little big to be a lap dog) because she can be very good if she sits with you and knows she safe. We can always tell if someone drives up that she doesnt know as she will bark but if it someone she knows she begins singing its really very funny.
She now has a brother Scooby. Scooby is a stray that someone sat out at my husbands place of business. We took him in and in February he will have his 2nd family-day (birthday into our family). They love each other so much; I often wonder how they ever made it without each other.
Miss Murphy also enjoys her bi-monthly trips to the groomers. Her first few visits they had to sedate her but now she loves it and they say she is a sweetie and never gives a bit of problem.
Ive included a picture of Murph, on Christmas day this year, after all the gifts were opened; she was so pooped he took her new baby and curled up in her favorite bed and slept several hours.
Thanks for helping us find our Miss Murphy.
About a year ago, Bert was a sweet poodle mix needing a home. Lisa was looking for a canine companion to Ladd, a sweet and comical rescue she had at home. Lisa was hoping for a more lap-friendly dog that could sit in her sister Gails lap or on Gails wheelchair tray. When Lisa met Bert, she knew he was just the dog that she and Gail were looking for! Now Bert has a home, Ladd has a brother, Lisas got a special new friend and Gails lap is always warm!
Just a note to let you know how Bukka is doing. If you remember him, he is the deaf ACD I got from the shelter last year. We went to Melissa Heater for obedience and he got his Charm Behaviour award for being such a wonderful dog. Of course he does it all with hand signals. The only command he can't do is a "sit stay" if I leave the room and he can't see me. I have also taught him a few basic hand signals for "good dog" and "BAD BOY". He happiest dog I have ever met. Most people can't tell he is deaf because he is so well adjusted. He does't walk he prances and he never met an animal or human he doesn't like. Bukka is part of the family. I encourage everybody to look at a pet's heart and not physical condition when selecting a new pet. I'm sure glad I found Bukka.
